What is a wart?

A wart is a hard, callous thickening of the epidermis in the form of a crude cauliflower-like bulge. In itself harmless, but can be ugly and very contagious. Half of all warts disappear spontaneously within one or two years.

There are many types of warts. Still there is only a small amount of warts that frequents. The most common are an ordinary wart and the verruca.

Do I need to consulte my General Practioner?

You don’t really need to see your General Practioner when you have a wart. But if you are in doubt as to whether that spot is a wart or not, please consult your General Practioner.

You can try to prevent yourself and others from infections with a few simple measures:

  • No nail-biting
  • Don’t scratch or pick the wart
  • Don’t shares towels ( think also kitchen towels)
  • Wear well ventilating socks and shoes
  • Wear sandals in the gym, in the swimming pools and in public showers 
  • Wash your hands and feet often, preferably without soap; dry  well after washing, especially between the fingers and toes
